But\nyou’re going to need something a bit more potent to withstand the onslaught of\npestilence poised to sweep the Empire. For this week’s spotlight falls upon the\nthree Brothers Glott, who will stop at nothing to see the Empire remade in the\nimage of Nurgle’s realm. Meet the Glottkin!

The Glottkin

Marked by Nurgle before their birth, Otto, Ethrac and Ghurk Glott\nwitnessed the slaying of the parents at the hands of the Empire, an event which\ntriggered the transformation into their current feculent forms. Scythe-wielding\nOtto and sorcerous Ethrac ride to battle on the shoulders of Ghurk, who has\ngrown beyond mere corpulence to truly monstrous proportions. They’re prone to\nthe odd brotherly squabble, but they always align to fight as one, as they\njourney south to visit rancid vengeance upon the Empire.

Campaign gameplay

The Glottkin lead the Host of the Triplets, a Warriors of Chaos faction\nwith some delicious Nurgle-themed perks. The souls which they harvest in battle\ncan be spent on many different Gifts of Nurgle, such as Rituals of Decay which\nprovide campaign and battle effects (such as spreading poxes and triggering\nNurgle Rains), Grandfather’s Blessings which empower your Lords and Heroes with\na range of Nurgle-themed benefits, and the ability to seed Gardens of\nCorruption. As you spread your corruption farther and wider, you’ll gain access\nto new and more powerful Rituals and Blessings, and the ability to seed more\nGardens.

For it is not simple destruction which the Glottkin seek. Blessed by the\nPlague God, they can transform captured settlements into Dark Fortresses or\nGardens of Corruption, which blur the boundaries between reality and Nurgle’s\nRealm. Gardens enable the Glottkin to bolster their Warriors of Chaos warbands\nwith Daemonic Nurgle units, massively broadening their recruitment options.\nGardens of Corruption are limited in number however, so they’re best placed in\nstrategically useful locations.

Beginning play in the icy wastes of Norsca, the early stages of the\nGlottkin campaign are all about rallying local support. Or more accurately,\nmaking beelines for the Norscan capitals, stomping them into submission, and\nvassalizing the tribes. It really feels like a gathering storm as one by one\nthe Norscan tribes fall in line, your area of influence expands, and you build\nfavour with Nurgle. From here, you can expand and conquer in any direction you\nwish, but with the ultimate goal of forging south to Altdorf and ending the\nEmpire once and for all.

Battle gameplay

Glottkin warbands are nothing if not versatile. Initially, you’ll have\naccess to the Warriors of Chaos unit-roster, with units such as Marauders,\nWarhounds, Chaos Warriors and Aspiring champions. You can certainly assemble\nformidable armies with these warriors, but as you begin seeding Gardens of\nCorruption– which function in the cyclical fashion familiar to Nurgle Daemon\nfactions – your recruitment options broaden significantly. Nurglings,\nPlaguebearers, Soul Grinders and ultimately the full range of Nurgle Daemon\nunits becomes accessible, enabling you to assemble hybrid warbands with unit\ncompositions to suit your favoured battle playstyle. Many of your units can\nalso be enhanced using the Warband Upgrades menu which, among other\nupgrade-paths, can see Plaguebearers become Exalted, or a humble Marauder unit\nascend to the lofty heights of Chaos Knighthood.

Units

The Glottkin DLC grants access to the following new units

The Glottkin

Monstrous melee caster

Otto, Ethrak and Ghurek (or rather GHURK! as he prefers) fight as one in\nbattle, combining high-damage melee attacks with monstrous attributes and\nNurglish spellcasting prowess into a single powerhouse of a unit.

Their unique skill line grants them bonuses in a range of areas, such as\nenhanced healing caps, stat boosts for themselves and reduced Winds of Magic\ncosts. And that might’ve been the end of his tale, but\nfor the fact he discovered Warpstone – concentrated, volatile magic in solid\nform - which transformed him into a creature of unsurpassed power. Beneath the\ncrags of Cripple Peak, he unearthed a vast abundance of Warpstone, and erected his fortress of\nNagashizzar there. Thus armed, he began preparations to conduct a great dark\nritual, and take his vengeance on all Nehekhara.

The Skaven, terrified of the power Nagash wielded – and coveting the\nWarpstone under Cripple Peak for themselves, naturally – hatched a plot to\ndefeat the Necromancer. They crafted a Warpstone fellblade and smuggled it into\nthe dungeons beneath Nagashizzar, where Nagash had imprisoned the Nehekharan\nking Alacadizzar. Pressing the blade into his hands, they freed Alcadizzar and\nbade him take his vengeance.

Nagash unleashed his dark ritual, ending all life in Nehekhara, and\nraising its people in undeath. Drunk on the vast power he wielded, he was\nunaware as Alcadizzar stole into the ritual chamber and struck him down.\nHowever, Nagash’s Necromantic power was so great, his spirit remained.

Over the centuries, Nagash’s spirit was drawn inexorably back to his\nBlack Pyramid at Khemri, and he was reborn in the age of Sigmar. As he gathered\nhis strength, Nagash discovered that his crown, and all the power it contained,\nhad fallen into the hands of Sigmar. He began raising a new army of the dead\nand set his sights on reclaiming it.

Carving a path through the empire, his forces growing with every\nvictory, he fought countless battles, until at last he faced Sigmar in battle.\nSeeing his quarry wearing the crown, Nagash hurled his magical fury at Sigmar,\nbringing him to his knees. Sigmar tore off the crown, and as Nagash clawed for\nit, Sigmar raised Ghal Maraz and the Necromancer was slain again.

Now Nagash has risen again, returned to unlife by the efforts\nof Arkhan the Black and Mannfred Von Carstein. The forces of Chaos threaten to\nconsume the world, which should be rightfully his to rule. Nagash would see its\ninhabitants slain and resurrected in his eternal service. And now, he has his\nsights set on nothing less than godhood...

Campaign Gameplay

Claiming what is rightfully his, Nagash has mastery over all the\nflavours of undeath. As he captures settlements, he can transform them into\nsummoning grounds for the staggering variety of all undead units. Coastal\nsettlements become Pirate Coves, while inland settlements can be fashioned into\nBurial Chambers or Mausoleums. Across these settlements, Nagash gains access to\nrecruitment options across the Vampire Coast, Tomb Kings and Vampire Counts\nunit rosters.

The crowning landmarks of Nagash’s campaign are Necropolises – major\nsettlements which form the very foundation for Nagash’s Land of the Dead\ncampaign mechanic. A Necropolis gathers Necromantic Energy from each region in\nits province, and from those in every province bordering\nit.

Necromantic Energy is spent on construction of Necropolis buildings,\nincreasing the faction’s unit capacities and raising units instantly in the\nprovince via the Gravecall recruitment option (though units can still be\nrecruited as normal using Dark Energy). Each Necropolis is a powerhouse of\nelite unit recruitment, offering advanced military structures to raise the\nmightiest warriors from each flavour of undeath.

When not creating nightmarish combinations of undead warriors, Nagash\nconducts arcane research deep in the bowels of the vast Black Pyramid. Subjugating any of the\nLegendary Lords, namely Arkhan the Black, Neferata, Luthor Harkon, plus Vlad\nand Mannfred Von Carstein, grants you immediate ownership over their empires\nand forces. There are also three Legendary Heroes in the form of Dieter\nHelsnicht, Walach Harkon and Krell, plus a poltergeist Follower known as The\nNameless, who grants any Lord he is assigned to the ability to possess enemy\nunits before a battle.

Oh, and Nagash REALLY wants his stuff back. Which\nis only fitting for the Supreme Lord of Undeath!

Battle gameplay

If we were to sum up the focus of Nagash’s battle gameplay in a single\nterm, it’d be power. That begins with Nagash himself, who is probably the most\npowerful single character in the game. Plus, he has the full rosters of every\nundead faction at his bony fingertips, and some potent new additions in the\nform of the Morghasts, the Spirit Host, the Coven Throne, and the unspeakable\nmight of the Khemric Titan. When it comes to building armies with Nagash, the\nsky’s the limit…

Legendary Lord: Nagash

Apex caster and melee Lord

If Nagash were simply a mage, he’d be the most powerful spellcaster in\nthe game. The Vampire Counts are getting a significant rework, which we feel better\ncaptures the essence of the Midnight Aristocracy, and the fantasy of raising\nhordes of undead to conquer the world.

The first change to mention is the Vampire Counts’\ncore game loop.\nRecruitment previously revolved around local region actions, utilizing building\nrecruitment upgrades to improve your forces and being supplemented by the Raise\nDead feature, but the system lacked any real investment in provincial military\ninfrastructure. We felt we could deepen the core loop here, so we’ve redesigned\nelements of the building and recruitment systems to achieve this. The new\nsystem tackles longstanding issues we felt existed in the previous Raise Dead\nmechanic, as it invalidated a lot of campaign progression, such as giving you\ntier 5 units after fighting tier 1 units via battle markers.

Raise Dead is now officially the default\nrecruitment method for your undead hordes. All units (other than the very lowest-tier\nones) now have unit capacity, and require military buildings to increase that\ncap. Any unit can be recruited anywhere in the world, provided you have the unit-capacity\nfor them, and the relevant resources to recruit them. There is no longer a chance-based\nelement to recruitment.

Lower-tier\nunits (mostly tiers 1-3) require Corpses – a new resource – to recruit. Corpses\nare a provincial resource and generated as units are killed in the province.\nSimilar to the old system, the more (and the bigger!) battles there are in a\nprovince, the more Corpses you’ll have to raise your legions. Recruiting higher-tier\nunits (tiers 4-5) also requires another new resource called Blood. This is\nprimarily gained through certain buildings which convert Corpses in the\nprovince into Blood.

Blood has\nmany uses and choosing how to spend it will be a critical decision. As well as\nrecruiting high-tier units, it’s also spent on confederation mechanics, certain\ncritical buildings, Blood Decrees, Vampire Lairs, Bloodlines and Technologies\n(which are being reworked as well).

NEW FEATURE: VAMPIRE LAIRS

We’re\nadding a brand-new feature in the shape of Vampire Lairs. Our goal here is to\nemphasise the pre-eminence of Vampires, and celebrate the unique traits of the different\nBloodlines.

Gaining\nnew Vampire Lords now requires you to find a Vampire Lair and spend time\ndeveloping it before awakening the Vampire within. Developing a Lair involves making\nchoices which essentially customise the sleeping Vampire Lord with special\ntraits, bonuses and more. You can also choose how much time you want to invest\nin each Vampire before awakening them for your faction. So for example, you can\nswiftly awaken a Vampire for quick access to a Lord of a specific Bloodline, or\nyou can take your time to invest heavily in their development, resulting in a considerably\nmore powerful Vampire Lord.

Vampire\nLairs are scattered around the world in random settlements at the start of each\ncampaign, and revealing them requires the player to fully discover the\nsettlement, by occupation or via certain Agent actions. Once access to the\nnewly revealed Lair is granted, the rituals of awakening may begin!

As\nVampire Lords are now recruited through Lairs, the Bloodlines feature has been\nupdated to support this new gameplay flow. Previously a Bloodline would provide\naccess to a key character type, and could only be upgraded three times. Now, a\nBloodline can be infinitely ‘empowered’, but each subsequent empowerment\nrequires an ever-increasing volume of Blood.

VAMPIRE COUNT CONFEDERATION

We’ve\nalso introduced a new mechanism for allowing Confederation with other Vampire\nCount Legendary Lords. We believe End Games should be the most\nclimactic moment of your campaign, and should present a challenge that is\ndeeper than just a host of new armies appearing on the edge of your empire.

To\nbegin with, the current End Game scenarios have been re-categorized as Crisis\nScenarios. We imagine these more as mid-game events that will certainly\nshake up a campaign, but don’t provide all of the necessary ingredients players\nwant from an End Game.

We’ve\nnow crafted three new End Game scenarios, and we believe they’re the best we’ve\nmade to date. We of\ncourse provide options in the frontend to opt-out of these new End Games (as\nwell as the newly categorized mid-game Crisis Scenarios), for players who want\nthe full, uninterrupted Sandbox experience. We’ve also included options to\ncustomize the End Games themselves.

The\nthree End Game Scenarios heavily utilize Devastation as part of their\nmechanics, and as the End Game commences, the music, campaign lighting, and the\nterrain itself change as the Endgame factions begin to conquer more of the\nworld.

End\nGame Overview: Chaos Invasion

Archaon\nhas gathered the forces of Chaos, and all are united under his banner. Some really capture the motivation of a\nLegendary Lord/faction, while others are rather more functional and generic.

We’ve\nnow updated victory conditions with a single design-goal in mind: we want to\nensure each campaign has a set of loreful objectives which each Legendary\nLord/faction would aim to achieve. Where possible, these objectives will\ninclude that faction or culture's unique mechanics as part of the victory\ncondition.

We’ve\nalso updated the rewards that Victory Conditions grant. Short Victories will\ngenerally provide one reward that is shared by all Legendary Lords in the\nculture, and another Legendary-Lord-specific reward to match their motivations\nor playstyle, while Long Victory rewards will remain more generic. Our goal here\nis to encourage use of the special Short Victory rewards to assist in achieving\na Long Victory, and the Long Victory rewards to help you towards a Domination\nVictory.

LORES OF MAGIC UPDATES

Lore\nof Vampires

Given\nthe big Vampire Counts focus, we felt this was the perfect time to give the\nLore of Vampires a well-deserved visual update with some fancy new spell\neffects.

Lore\nof Nehekara

The\nLore of Nehekara is a spell Lore that we frequently see raised as lacking\nimpact compared to the many other Lores of Magic in the game. Campaign AI Improvements

With Patch 8.1 a number of Campaign AI changes and\nimprovements have been added to the game:

Campaign AI Prioritisation

What did we change?

There are certain Campaign AI tasks that lead to its armies\nclustering and idling e.g. focusing on defending key regions therefore, we’ve\nadded a new mechanism that allows us to control exactly what the Campaign AI\nprioritises, depending on how many turns have passed since campaign start.\nUsing this new mechanism we’ve de-prioritised tasks e.g. defending key regions\nin the late game, as contextually they are not that useful at this stage of a\ncampaign anyway.

How will this change affect you in-game?

We expect this to solve a number of cases where Campaign AI\narmies are clustered and idle around settlements, and the mechanism we’ve\ndeveloped make this tweak also allows us to more easily solve similar Campaign\nAI behaviour issues in the future.

Campaign AI End Game Scenario Balance Update

What did we change?

Utilising the mechanism above defensive tasks for end game\nfactions have had their priority decreased, making the late game more dynamic\nand much more interesting to play as the Campaign AI will seek to expand and\ncompete instead of turtling up and behaving reactively. The priority of tasks\nthat target enemy forces is increased slightly.

How will this change affect you in-game?

End game factions should be less prone to idling and\nclumping around a settlement, and situations where multiple end game factions\nend up in a stalemate (not attacking each other, only defending) should\ndecrease.

Campaign AI Known Issues

There are a series of AI related issues that we are working\non solving, including:

\n
End\n game factions spawning before turn 40 are more likely to both exhibit and\n cause clumping behavior.
\n
Multiple\n end game scenarios triggering at the same time can cause, regular factions\n bordering end game factions to clump up around their settlements.
\n
End\n game factions bordering other end game factions clumping around\n settlements or near region borders (this can occur regardless of whether\n the factions are at war).
\n
End\n game factions at war with other end game factions that share a border or\n fight over a contested province can form pockets of armies locked in a\n standoff (usually this manifests as one side encamping around a\n settlement, and the other - raiding in the same region). The chance this\n occurs is proportional to the autoresolve result - the more evenly matched\n the armies are in auto resolve, the higher the chance this will happen.
\n
End\n game factions bordering a human of similar or superior strength ranking\n may fall back to owned regions and clump up.

2.
